Bookshelves.

This was my exciting repair adventure. I borrowed a hammer from bible study and bought some nails in the city. I tipped the shelves up and hammered the new thick nails in and pulled out the old pins that were sticking out dangerously. Yay, after weeks and weeks, project bookshelf paint is complete and books are out of the way.

Random review: Margin Call.

I was a very excited spectator of the GFC. I watched all the documentaries I could find about sub prime loans, wall street and money, downloaded the podcasts of the investor people on the ABC, read the SMH business section. I find money very interesting, and who can help staring at a car crash?

So I thought Margin Call would be an interesting movie to see, and it has a good cast of movie and TV actors I like. It's fairly simple. It's not an epic about the whole GFC, it's just about one company realising their stuff is worthless and selling it before anybody else realises. Moral dilemma, cut throat world of finance, in the end money is a delusion, and all that. Nobody dies, except a dog. There is a lot of swearing in the first quarter, and then it seems to stop. Good movie.

Birthday 28.

It was low-key this year, because there is enough else going on. Also, Monday doesn't suit birthdays very well. But it was lovely because getting happy text messages on my way to work cheers me up lots, and work people are lovely. We have certain small "things" we do, so that little presents mean a lot: a bag of pineapple lumps, some balloons on my desk, and a pretty bunch of flowers. And I looked forward to Mum visiting in the afternoon for shopping and dinner. It had to be a very early night for her to get home to Maitland, so i invited friends to join us at Chefs Gallery near Town Hall. Then mum got on a train and the 3 of us went to the new DESSERT AND STATIONERY SHOP a few doors down. Tasty hot chocolate. And at 8pm, I said "thanks for coming, oh it's only 8 o'clock—ah well, lets go home anyway!" and we split. It was nice to get home so early and still have a normal unwindy Monday night with my flatmate and the TV. And I had breakfast with a sister before work this morning, and office birthday celebrations in staff meeting this afternoon. So yay!

Paint round 2 results.

Here is the painted book case. The back fell of so we threw it out. It was very spongy and hard to paint anyway. The only problem is that the back provided structural support and now since only thin nails are holding it together it is dangerously wobbly. Ideally it should be drilled and screwed but we'll settle for borrowing a hammer and nailing it a bit more.

I got an exciting bargain at Kathmandu , some suction travel hooks, $30 down to $8 for a pack of 2. I think they are going to be better than 3m hooks because sturdier and easier to move, except I can't figure out how to detach them.

I still wear braces.

This is a general update, because a few people have wondered when they will come off. There is no answer. I have no end date, no freedom in sight, and no visible progress. In the last 6 weeks since my last appointment I had 2 breaks, so I got 2 bonus visits. My teeth want to roll sideways and break their bonds, and just don't want to move together. Sometimes it shrinks a tiny microscopic bit, but overall the progress is unnoticeable. A gap that was going to close in 6 months is only maybe 3/4 closed over almost 18 months later later. I barely hope taht they will be off before I am 30, which is now only 2 years away. Half my twenties in braces at this rate. I suppose it's good value though.
