Scoot commute.

Moving office has taken up a lot of energy recently. Packing and moving and decluttering is tiring, and then a lot of mental space gets taken up with re-routining everyday life. New commute. New people sitting next to me. New rules for lunches in the fridge. Everything has gone basically smoothly, but it all takes up more effort for a while.

This morning I scooted to work wearing the nifty black cycling gloves I bought in Maitland on Saturday. They are to protect my hands if I fall off. I almost did today but luckily I was leaning back, which is the trick, so that if you hit a bump and your weight goes forward you have plenty of balance to catch yourself. 55 minutes and rather hard work, although I was tired in the legs from Jillian after work on Monday. Took almost 20 minutes longer than the X73 bus at 35-40 min. Bus feels short distance but slow, scooter feels long distance but fast. I need to refine my route to get the most efficient path surface and hill and traffic light combination. Everyone in the office is trialling their new commute options.

Better go test the ease of which I can carry the scooter on the bus.

Made a piano keyboard cover.

This is a job I put off for 5 years. That's an epic bit of procrastination for a job that only took 30 minutes and involved no heavy lifting. I've had this scrap of quilt batting sitting on the keyboard for a long time, but it doesn't keep dust off. So I needed to ad some material to cover it and fit down the sides. I had lots of leftover cheap satin from cape making.

I pinned it on and cut a slit for the music stand, because I like it poking through. Folded the slit and sewed it down.

Like so. Like sew :)

Then fold the edges down to get a fit, like a bed sheet, and sew. You might notice that I like to cut and pin things actually on the keyboard, rather than use a tape measure and do maths.

I trimmed off the uneven bottom edge, I didn't hem it because A) I don't care and B) this cheap satin is really slippery and hems roll all over the place and get rumpled.

And another ta-da! moment. Dust-free piano playing.

Made a cheap passport holder.

I've noticed a lot of different wallets and folders for keeping travel documents organised. At Becs garage sale I bought a Fossil zip up thing for carrying electronic organisers in. I thought it looked about the right size for my passport so I took it home and tried it. Passport too fat, as you can see above there is a boxy edging in the way. But...

Cut out the edging but leaving the elastic...

Yay!

14th of Feb.

What a nice day, in a way that had nothing to do with old St Val. I started packing my office area for the move. Toasted baked beans and cheese sandwich for lunch. First study with bible study group, and I love my group. Nachos for dinner and I love nachos.

And my lovely flatmate was paid for babysitting with the currency of Zumbo, so we rewatched New Girl with the wedding and the slow chicken dance ending and feasted on some kind of caramel sponge with a filling and a chocolate pavlova which had a chewy marshmallow-like filling but an unfortunately disgusting fake pear on top with a clove stalk, and I accidentally ate the clove. Pyeh pyehghhhyeh. I will probably never go to Zumbo but it makes me happy to even see those overpriced goodies in the house.

The best thing that was actually Valentine's Day related was that Noisetrade has a Facebook sampler of indie love songs. And I had a vicarious joy watching men walking around in the evening with bunches of flowers.
